I’m Joshua Marshall, the artist behind The Painted Wall — a mural artist, illustrator, and visual storyteller based in Hertfordshire, creating bespoke hand-painted murals across St Albans, Harpenden, Berkhamsted, and the surrounding areas.

After studying Illustration at Kingston University, I spent more than 10 years working across illustration, advertising, and television as a professional storyboard artist and commercial illustrator. Working with agencies, brands, and production teams helped shape the way I approach mural design today — combining strong composition, visual storytelling, and large-scale creative thinking to transform walls into immersive spaces.

My background in storyboarding naturally evolved into mural painting, moving visual narratives from page to wall through colour, scale, texture, and hand-painted detail.

At The Painted Wall, I create bespoke murals for homes, restaurants, cafés, offices, retail interiors, hospitality spaces, schools, and public environments throughout Hertfordshire and beyond. Whether it’s a bold feature wall, a typographic mural, branded artwork for a commercial space, or a large-scale narrative mural, every project is designed to bring personality, atmosphere, and individuality to a space.

My work is rooted in expressive line work, thoughtful composition, and storytelling — creating murals that feel both visually striking and personal to the people who experience them.

Based in Hertfordshire, I regularly work across St Albans, Harpenden, Berkhamsted, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Hitchin, and surrounding areas, while also travelling for mural commissions throughout the UK.
